Gate Obstacle with Guiding Poles

Training ideas provided by Maree McAteer.

We’re continuing to add more training videos to Virtual Working Equitation to help inspire and support your progress with each obstacle.

Our latest videos focus on the Gate obstacle, demonstrating how to set it up using poles as guides and offering a variety of exercises you can practice both with and without a rope. The exercises can be done in hand, ridden one handed, or ridden two handed, making them suitable for riders and horses at different stages of training.

If you’re looking to build confidence before tackling the full obstacle, you’ll also find three additional Gate training videos on our YouTube channel that focus on in hand work.

We hope these videos give you fresh ideas and practical exercises to enjoy with your horse.

Record a video and submit your exercise to help refine your training using the Submit Exercise link on this website anytime up to the competition 15 entry date.

It has been wonderful to see the first submissions coming in, and we are delighted that this format is helping so many riders improve their skills.

Happy training!
